Just as you wish, said the secretary, far too snottily for Bond's liking. Bitch. In the event Dr Goldnojaws absence turned out to be a blessing. For whilst he was waiting Bond took the opportunity to look down again at the Façade factory floor spread out beneath him, in an effort to find out what it was that didn't seem quite right about it. He failed in this, but he did discover something of possibly even greater importance. The identity of the man in the white overall. While Bond was weighing up the interior dimensions of the factory floor the man came through the same door he had on Bonds previous visit. However this time he didnt turn back. He walked the full length of the factory floor before going through a door at the other end. Limping ever so slightly, Bond observed, the whole way. It was the limp that jogged Bonds memory, the piece of the jigsaw that had previously been missing. He had failed to pick up on it when he had seen the man the first time, then again when hed briefly seen him outside the factory. But once he had married the limp to the dark, swarthy features of the man, Bond was in no doubt as to his identity. It was his old adversary, Professor Gonzalez. Gonzales had been in the employ of a villain in one of Bonds numerous adventures, an assignment that hadnt yet been turned into a book or film, hadnt yet been made into another Yesterday Is Another Tomorrow or Die On Pancake Tuesday or Tomorrow Dies Before Yesterday Begins or some other such ludicrous Secret Service-demeaning title dreamed up by somebody who ought to be locked up. It had been the Dr Zog case. Dr Zog was yet another manifestation of a crazed individual who wanted to take over the world. His plan was twofold. First he would make the worlds supply of cheese addictive; that is, much more addictive than it already is to the average cheese-lover. This would be achieved by adding highly concentrated heroin to the curds and whey during the cheese manufacturing process. The resultant cheese would be of such narcotic intensity that if anyone were to eat just a crumb of it they would be hooked on it immediately and in a very short space of time become a hopeless addict. |
