Dear Balkan Bulgarian Airlines

I will shortly be travelling with your airline to Bulgaria for a holiday, accompanied by my wife and my mother-in-law. We will be staying in the Bulgarian Mountains, and I was wondering what the position would be if my mother-in-law slipped and fell down a mountain and met her demise? In this event I am fairly sure that my wife would want to bring the old bag back to England for burial, so I need to know how you stand in Bulgaria with regard to people popping their clogs whilst they are over there. I am aware that in the Mediterranean countries it is the policy to get stiffs planted as soon as possible, and that if we were holidaying in the Med we would have to interrupt our holiday to fly her home, but maybe in Bulgaria where it isn't quite as hot you don't mind corpses lying around for a few days, in which case we could finish our holiday before taking her back home with us.

Incidentally, how is a person in a coffin classified on an aeroplane? Do they come under passengers or luggage? And is there any extra charge? If so, it occurs to me that there would be a vacant seat on the return flight - my mother-in-law's - and it seems sensible to me to put the coffin on the seat; in which case I wouldn't expect there to be any charge, especially as she wouldn't be taking any in-flight meals.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully

T Ravenscroft (Mr)
