Dear
Finnair
|
|
|
I will be
making a return visit to Finland with your airline in a few weeks time, and am
wondering if you could let me have some information with regard to your
airline?
During my stay in Finland, the purpose of which is
to undertake the Finnish section of an independently sponsored study of
Northern Europeans, I will be trying to discover why it is that Finnish people
are so miserable.
Up until the time I became involved in
the study, the only Finns I had ever met were those taking holidays in the
Mediterranean, and I'd always assumed that what made them so miserable was the
thought of having to go back to Finland at the end of the holiday. However,
when visiting Finland last year, I came into contact with many of the natives
who were equally miserable, and despite the fact that they had never been out
of the country. So there is obviously more to it than I at first
thought.
Quite why the sponsors want to know why Finns are
miserable isn't clear - if Finns choose to be miserable that's their business,
I say - but if an oily fish canning company wants to pay me good money to find
out, why should I care? Maybe Finns are miserable because they eat a lot of
oily fish. It would certainly make me miserable having to eat a lot of oily
fish, that's for sure. But I digress.
The reason I am
writing to you is because the last time I was in Finland I never moved out of
Helsinki, whereas this time I need to get around the country. As I would prefer
to do this by air whenever possible I was wondering if Finnair operate an
internal service? Perhaps you could advise me? If you do, a timetable would be
very much appreciated.
At the same time, any observations
you may have on why you Finns are so miserable - apart from having to eat oily
fish - would be most welcome.
Yours
sincerely
T Ravenscroft (Mr) |
