Dear Mr Ravenscroft
I
thank you for your letter dated 7th April, and note that although the red wine
offered to our customers was not to your palate, it has subsequently, after
considerable oxidisation, proved to be useful as a varnish
stripper!
Whilst I have no qualifications whatsoever as a
chemist, I feel sure that it was this long period of oxidisation which brought
about a chemical reaction so that the resulting liquid could no longer fit the
description of "wine".
However, I do feel qualified to
reject the theory that wines may be classed as good or bad depending upon the
country of their origin! Be assured, Mr Ravenscroft, that in my considerable
experience in this field there are good and bad wines produced by all the
wine-producing countries!
As it happens, to my taste the
wines offered on board our services vary from "quite acceptable" to
"excellent", but even individual wines may vary from one bottle to another, or
indeed, the state of one's palate or indeed stomach at the
time.
Nevertheless, in answer to your request for
information, if you were travelling by Viva Air from Palma directly to London
Heathrow, the red wine will have been Siglo Vino de Crianza, produces by
Bodegas AGE in Fuenmayor, Rioja.
If, on the other hand, you
were flying to Manchester via Barcelona, it may have been one of five different
types of red wine that we carry on Iberia Airlines services. I enclose the page
from our in-flight magazine with illustrations of the various bottles which may
help you identify the particular brand.
I hope that this
information will prove to be of use to you. I thank you for your interest, and
hope that we may have the pleasure, and privilege of welcoming you and Mrs
Ravenscroft aboard again soon.
