Dear Sabena Belgian World Airlines

I will be flying to Brussels with your airline in a few weeks time, and wonder if I might ask a little favour of you?

The thing is, I'm in the process of building up a new company, 'Rubbers Unlimited', and naturally I'm very anxious to create the maximum amount of interest in my company's products. With this in mind, would it be possible for me to attach a two hundred feet long by forty feet wide banner, in the approximate shape of a condom, and bearing the legend 'Rubbers Unlimited', to the back of the aeroplane in which I travel, so that as it wings its way to Brussels following take off the whole of London will see it?

I have already had an excellent response from a trial flight made over Gloucester with a smaller banner attached to a smaller aeroplane. That was some twelve months ago, and since then sales in Gloucester have gone up by 32 per cent, while teenage pregnancies have fallen by 18 per cent; so as well as helping me you will be doing your bit to bring down the total of unwanted babies.

Naturally I expect an even greater success with a two hundred feet wide banner attached to a phallic-shaped jet airliner, which I suspect might attract quite a lot of attention.

I would be willing to pay Sabena £200 for the privilege of doing this, or you could take three hundred poundsworth of my company's products, whichever you prefer.

Of course the ideal advertisement for my products would be to encase the entire aeroplane in see-through rubber, with the words 'Rubbers Unlimited' written on the fuselage in giant letters, but at the moment the expense of doing this is a little beyond my advertising budget. One for the future perhaps.

I do hope you will be able to help me on this one.

Yours sincerely

T Ravenscroft (Mr)
