Dear Turkish Airlines

Reference your letter dated 10th May.

I will be flying with your airline to Turkey in a couple of months, but before I visit your country I would be grateful if you could help me with a little query.

Geography has never been my strong suit and when I looked up Turkey on the map I was quite alarmed to discover just how near it is to Kurdistan, and I'm sure I've no need to tell you that this is where Saddam Hussein and his cut-throats are currently waging war with the local populace. Personally I think that the Iraqis should let the Kurds have their whey - a little joke there - but that's another matter.

The thing is, Kurdistan is far too close to Turkey for my liking, and just in case Saddam tries to enlarge his little empire at your expense while I'm over there I am considering bringing my shotgun along to protect myself with, should the need arise. Would this be in order? If not, is it possible to buy a decent firearm in Turkey? I am told that the Turks will try to sell anything to tourists - in fact a friend of mine told me he had bought a hooker in a tobacco shop in Bodrum. However I won't be bothering myself because I have never had to pay for sex in my life and I don't intend starting now. But does the Turks overpowering desire to sell things to tourists extend to firearms?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely

T Ravenscroft (Mr)
