Dear United Airlines

I wish to travel to Hong Kong later this year an am wondering if I might fly with you?

Since last flying, some years ago, I have become a somnambulist. Naturally enough I don't want to take the risk of sleepwalking whilst I am in an aeroplane - in a somnambulistic state I could quite easily open one of the doors and plunge to my death!

The answer to my problem would seem to be for me to remain awake for the duration of the flight, but unfortunately all forms of transport have the effect of sending me to sleep - five minutes on a train, boat or plane and I am deep in the Land of Nod.

Bearing the above in mind, would it be possible for me to stand up throughout the journey? I realise of course that you have regulations about passengers remaining seated with fastened seat belts during certain times, but in this instance I am hoping you might stretch a point - after all your stewardesses still parade up and down with the duty-free whilst passengers are seated, don't they.

Apart from that I wouldn't be able to sit down even if I wanted to, not with any degree of comfort at least, since I intend to wear a parachute. This is because, even though stood up whilst on transport I have been known to fall asleep, and if I do happen to sleepwalk and open one of the doors and fall out of the aeroplane - which would no doubt wake me up - I want to be able to hit terra firma with as soft a landing as possible.

I do hope that you will be able to help me.

Yours faithfully

T Ravenscroft (Mr)
