Ali Ibrahim Jawee

Thank you for your letter of 24th May.

Since writing to you I have learned that for the last four weeks there has been a civil war raging in the Republic of Yemen. I do think you might have mentioned it! I certainly won't look out of place with my right hand missing, will I, as lots of Yemenis will no doubt be losing their right hands, along with various other parts of their bodies. However, as you must have been aware that there was a war going on when you wrote to me, and were still able to 'whish me a happy time in Yemen anytime', it is obvious that you feel that holidaymakers aren't in any danger, so I will be coming in early July.

I must say how very apt the Yemenia Yemen Airways motto 'More than a choice' is. It absolutely typifies what you are about, because I've flown with dozens of airlines in my time but it's certainly the first time I've ever been offered the choice of a holiday plus a war!

Despite your confidence that I won't come to any harm, I do think it would be less than prudent of me if I were not to take the precaution of wearing bulletproof casual and beachwear during my stay with you. Will these items be readily available in the Yemen or will I have to bring them with me?

Yours sincerely

T Ravenscroft (Mr)
